Throughout 2020, Strive partnered with the international, community involvement organization, buildOn, to fully fund the build and development of a school in Tchapa Malawi. The buildOn organization educates and serves through Service Learning Programs in America’s under-served high schools and by building schools in some of the world’s economically poorest countries. Their mission?… To break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through service and education. With 6 national locations and over 36,927 hours served, buildOn is truly making an impact through growth and positive change around the world.
Strive’s school development will arrange for year-round education for 1,217 students (640 boys and 577 girls) and provide classrooms where fifteen teachers will teach grades kindergarten – 8th grade levels. The local Tchapa community contributed land, local materials, and over 634 volunteer work days to help dig foundational work, lay bricks, and furnish the classrooms. Women served side-by-side with men on the worksite, an especially important achievement in Malawi, where women are often denied the same opportunities as men
Additionally, Strive employees band together to raise more than $5,100.00 towards buildOn’s Malawi Adult Literacy Program. 1 in 5 adults across the globe cannot read or write, while two-thirds of these adults are women. buildOn’s Adult Literacy Program gives parents and grandparents the education they need to build a better life for themselves and their children. With the ability to read, write and do basic math, individuals are able to improve health conditions, develop more efficient farming techniques, and gain a stronger voice in society.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Strive employees were unable to travel to help the community break ground, but the local volunteers made sure to include photos throughout the year. Take a look!
