In the modern cocktail scene, the terms “mixology” and “mixologist” are a regular part of bar vocabulary. Mixology is generally accepted as a refined and in-depth study of the art and craft of mixing drinks. Think of it as the study of the chemistry of drinks, and the mixologist as the professional who studies and practices that. The mixologist creates innovative cocktails, often using unique, house-made, or historical (and now uncommon) ingredients to create unusual tastes in drinks.
Similarly, in the modern data world, these same mixologist concepts are becoming more and more prevalent across data-savvy organizations. The organizations that use these concepts are able to get creative with the data sets that are used to drive insights. They can remove limitations of data availability and data sharing, and reduce the cost and effort involved in locating and integrating data sets. Additionally, data sellers or data-as-a-service (DaaS) providers can more easily reach potential customers through commercial data exchanges such as the Snowflake Data Marketplace.
On Wednesday December 9th, 2020 Strive hosted it’s first virtual Marketing event, ‘Sip with Strive and Snowflake’ where attendees dove deeper into what it means to be a ‘Data Mixologist’ and how the Snowflake Data Marketplace could provide business value to their organizations.
During the event, attendees watched as Strive’s resident mixologist Andy Bagley made different cocktails and walked through a history of cocktail making through the ages. After the mixology portion of the call. Justin Langseth and Jeff Dillenburg took the attendees through a demo of the Snowflake Data Marketplace and some additional case studies in how businesses are leveraging the tool today.
All attendees received a cocktail kit and day of alcohol delivery to provide a bit of hands on activity on the day, including a branded rocks glass to toast out of.
